Hopper Hotel St. Josef

The building has a distinctive feel, since it used to be a monastery. The rooms are quaint and clean, though not especially large, and breakfast was nice with a decent range of options. I was here on a work trip and would recommend it to anyone staying in the area. There are plenty of bars and restaurants close by.

When I accidentally left my sunglasses behind, the staff went out of their way to find them and even helped arrange shipping them back to the U.S. I really appreciated that level of care. The rooms were comfortable and thoughtfully designed, with a cosy feel that made me feel at home. Breakfast was delicious, and the room where it was served had such a charming atmosphere that each morning felt like a special occasion.

The old convent premises have an incredible atmosphere, and the hotel is newly renovated and very comfortable, even in the smallest rooms. It’s well placed near central Cologne, the modern port area, and the Rhine. The cleanliness, reception, and attention to even small requests all deserve praise. My only downsides were street and corridor noise, and the jalousie windows didn’t make up for the lack of curtains. Still, I can’t imagine wanting to stay elsewhere.

The price was high, and having no breakfast meant driving elsewhere to eat. That’s inconvenient when you’re short on time, like when hurrying to a business meeting. The bathroom was good, but the water wasn’t hot during my stay. Maybe something was wrong, though I didn’t ask. The rooms were clean and renovated with modern accessories, and mine had a teapot and a working folding desk.
