Townhouse by THE QVEST

The Qvest made our honeymoon stop in Cologne really lovely. My husband and I found the beds comfortable and the rooms clean, and there are room options for solo guests as well as families. Everyone we dealt with was warm and kind, often congratulating us. The reception and restaurant teams especially made an effort to make our stay feel special. The hotel sits in a pretty courtyard with a cozy pub and restaurant, and the cathedral is just a short walk away.

The old Gothic church building is impressive, and the neighborhood is great. But my single room was the smallest I've ever stayed in, even after several trips to Japan. I'm Bonvoy royalty, yet I didn't get the usual upgrade here. The standard rooms may be fine, but I wouldn't choose a single room at this hotel. Also, coughing anywhere in the building can keep you awake. I suppose that's part of staying in an old church.

The building has an interesting look, but inside it feels pretty basic. My room was small, and mornings were really loud. There was just one staff member handling reception, room service, and everything else. She was very nice, though she said herself that she felt overwhelmed. I didn't receive any Bonvoy benefits. For me, it was only an average stay.

The location was convenient, the hotel charming, and the staff helpful and pleasant. We were happy with our short stay in Cologne. The rooms were very clean, comfortable, and in keeping with European hotel standards. Since the building is very old, air conditioning may not be possible, so it's something to check in advance if you need it. Our bathroom had a proper working door, though I understand the concern that some European hotel bathrooms offer little privacy. We were caught off guard by a bill for breakfast at the end. As Titanium members, we thought it was optional to include, but that turned out to be a misunderstanding. It was unpleasant, though it didn't spoil the stay. My one criticism is that the hotel could explain its welcome benefit more clearly. Some of the negative Bonvoy comments I've read seem a little embarrassing.
