City Marina

We ended up staying five nights after planning on just one or two. There was so much to do and the food was excellent. The City Marina in the heart of Cruxhaven made a big impression on us, and we could see the marina authority and Cruxhaven city fathers making improvements all around. For a city that wasn’t on our radar, we were VERY impressed, though the shipyards seemed too busy to help visiting yachts. There are excellent restaurants, bars, coffee shops, grocery stores, a bakery, commercial laundry, museums, and the train station all close by. The Whale restaurant, showers, and toilets were also conveniently near our mooring. We’d been sheltering from 35mph winds on our way from the Keil Canal to the NorthSea and beyond. At 14 meters, we were lucky there was no room in the commercial marina. We missed the 5PM bridge opening by five minutes for the inner harbor marina, but Christian from the harbor masters office waited and stayed late without complaint, in good humor. A seaman himself, he competently helped us and a large motor yacht find space in the very well-protected sluiceway across from the shipyards and moor up. The sturdy floating side-tie docks have little current and sit deep below the flood walls, shielding even large sailboats from strong winds and 14 foot tides. Across the waterway, Maritime Technik Cuxhaven GmbH is an excellent chandlery. The owner and manager helped us express order a special part from Holland. It’s well stocked with everything from oil and toilet paper to stainless fittings and line. For the few items they didn’t have, they pointed us to other places to find things on our shopping list.
