We’d built up quite an appetite exploring castle ruins on the drive back from the French border, and Altes Bahnhöf L was a great place to stop. All four of us enjoyed the generous portions, delicious dishes, and warm hospitality. There was something for everyone. The beer garden’s comfortable outdoor seating was a lovely bonus, and I’d happily stop here again.

The food was some of the best authentic German cooking any of us had tried, and the prices were very reasonable. My “Turkey schnitzel” was actually chicken and obviously fresh, with an amazing Madagascar pepper cream sauce. The Spatzel with cream sauce was great too, and don’t miss the Krauter butter. Inga was a delightful waitress and made sure our meal with friends went well. It’s a lively restaurant with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, but make a reservation.

The whole place has a railroad style, and even the reception is in a train. The rooms were clean and quiet, with good air conditioning, and the staff were friendly. Breakfast was excellent, and there’s a good restaurant right next door. The surrounding area is beautiful, though the immediate surroundings are a little industrial on a small scale. There’s plenty of parking, a charging station for electric vehicles, and two supermarkets within walking distance.
