The setting is very quiet, and the owner is friendly. Dinner is limited to one option, reportedly cooked fresh by the owner, and it was quite tasty. Breakfast comes plated at the table, with cold cuts and cheese, rather than as a buffet. The house feels old, with a 70s-80s charm. The rustic oak furniture is worn but seemed clean, and the mattress was quite acceptable for my aching back. Sheets and towels were threadbare, and the bathroom is small and dated. Expect to wait five minutes for hot water in the shower, and the old faucet badly needs a new aerator. My double room had no ceiling light, just a fluorescent tube by the window that was too dim for me. The heating, at least, worked perfectly. A generous two-star rating for this guesthouse.

The hostess was nice and the price was good, but the place is dated and run-down. The bathroom facilities need work: the shower takes at least five minutes to warm up, and the toilet won't flush.

The rooms were very clean and fairly spacious, and the hosts were really nice and welcoming. Good value for money. We'll definitely book here again if we're in the area.

The hosts were friendly and the rooms clean, which is why I gave two stars. The whole place is very dated. Breakfast was meager and uninspired: just white rolls, one sliced tomato for three people, and nowhere near enough sausage for three. There were two liverwursts and two mettwursts. The cream cheese and quark came straight from their tubs. At night, no one was there, so guests had to lock up themselves.

The old country inn in Emden is gone, and the building is now the QUARTIER. It has 17 double rooms, plus a large kitchen, bar, dance floor, lounge, and a garden with barbecue facilities. You can rent the whole place for celebrations, conferences, and other events.
