We had a great time at the beautiful beach last summer.

From this little harbour at the entrance to the North Sea, you can watch ships travelling to and from the Port of Hamburg. There’s plenty of parking right there, and a few restaurants nearby. The city center is about a 10-minute walk, and you can get around almost everywhere on foot or by bike. Many places are wheelchair accessible too.

Watching the ships is the best part of Cuxhaven for me, even though there's a thousand other lovely things to do. Duhnen is great for a stroll, with plenty to find that you might like, and its restaurants offer lots of different cuisines. The city of Cuxhaven has become more attractive again. From there, I’d really recommend walking through the pilots' quarter.

We were only there for two days, which felt far too short. Even with the cold wind and disappointing weather, we had a great time. There was no seawater near shore because we arrived at low tide, despite bringing swimsuits and hoping to sunbathe instead of swim 🤣. We ran across the seabed, which stretched for who knows how many kilometers, sinking up to our feet in warm, sandy mud. We also swam in the Elbe to watch seals, so bring binoculars if you can 😄. Walking along the embankment and taking photos made for lots of great memories. I hope I can go back.

We parked our motorhome for free here during the day at the Amerika kai. Across from us were the old love and the ferry port, where excursion boats leave for the seal banks and Heligoland. There’s no direct access to the water since this is a port area.
