There was just one toilet for five rooms, and the shared bathroom and the whole house smelled disgusting. The place was completely run-down, and the pictures don’t show what it’s really like. In our room there were no bedside tables, and the bed definitely wasn’t a double. The price was completely unjustified. Zero stars, and thanks for nothing 😕 (Unfortunately, you have to give at least one star to post 🙄)

We couldn’t cancel, but we left for another hotel without staying here. The mattresses and pillows were so filthy that clean bed linen wouldn’t have helped. At least we didn’t get sick, though the money was gone. I can see why the reception is behind bulletproof glass. I’d be scared too, if I were them. I can’t understand the good reviews, though it’s not surprising anymore. Absolutely not recommended.

Our room, 601, was right beside the bathroom, so every flush and tap woke us up. The guesthouse is reasonably comfortable, but having one toilet and bathroom for ten people is a no-go in high season, though it was okay in early October. The room itself was a little run-down but acceptable. The shower took a while to warm up the next morning; I thought I’d be stuck with cold water, but it eventually got hot. We booked on booking.com, and the listed address, Strichweg 197a, is an apartment building. The guesthouse is through a gate in the courtyard beside it, and reception is at Hotel Ankerplatz on the parallel street. That would have been useful to know beforehand. The app said reception was open until 6:00 PM, but it was empty by 5:30. A friendly man answered the emergency number, asked for my booking.com PIN and repeated it to be safe. He sent me to a key safe that wouldn’t open with the PIN, then sent a female employee who got it open after a few tries. That evening, Booking.com said my booking had been successfully cancelled, even though I hadn’t requested that. I wonder whether it had anything to do with the PIN request. The breakfast buffet was okay for the price, but the tables are so close that two people can’t sit side by side. Staff quickly clear any empty table and set it up for the next guests. At 9:30, just after I’d brushed my teeth, the manager called to ask where I was. I said I’d come to reception to pay, and he kindly reminded me it was only staffed until 10:00. Credit cards aren’t accepted, but debit cards are. We paid 71 euros for the room with breakfast, plus 4.10 euros tourist tax per person. Parking is inside the gated entrance. Fine for a night, but I wouldn’t book it again.

We cut our stay at the Meereslust guesthouse short after just one night because the conditions were intolerable. The house smelled of feces, and the rooms were dirty, poorly soundproofed, and nothing like the double rooms shown on the website. The walls were drywall, the blinds were broken, and we heard everything from snoring to intimate conversations through the night. The lightweight walls even shook whenever someone shut the stuck entrance door. The shared bathroom for five double rooms, or ten people, was dirty and another outrage. The shower screen was loose, there was no hot water, and showering was impossible. It was never cleaned daily, and other guests’ towels were scattered around. Ashtrays outside our window also filled our room with smoke. They told us we could no longer cancel, which felt like a scam. Earlier, we’d been pushed to cancel on Booking.com and book at the hotel instead, supposedly to save money. The saving was just €10 for four nights!!! It seems designed to keep guests from leaving reviews on Booking.com, where the current rating is nowhere near reality. Not recommended. Type of trip: Vacation · Couples.
