Courtyard by Marriott Dortmund

The rooms are fine and clean, and the location works if you need to be near University or some of the companies nearby. Getting to the city centre is difficult on foot and the transport options are few. There isn’t much around either, like supermarkets, restaurants or other services. During my stay last week, there was a promotion where you could skip daily room cleaning in return for customer points or a beer. That’s a very welcome idea, but I only heard about it on my last day. Nobody mentioned it at check-in. I’d skipped cleaning every day, but couldn’t claim the offer because I hadn’t filled out a form each day. That formality only damages customer trust and doesn’t seem to benefit the hotel. I tried to explain at reception, since I’d had a few beers over the previous days, but they politely denied the request because I hadn’t completed the forms. I also had to check out quite early on my last day. I’d already paid for breakfast that day, but it started later, and they couldn’t find a solution. They said it was too late to notify the chef the night before. I don’t think that suits a brand like Marriot. It was a poor experience overall, and not what I’d come to associate with the brand. I’d stayed here for business before, and that visit wasn’t memorable either. This time just proved the same point.

The restaurant food is really gd, and breakfast is simple but fulfilling. The rooms are so clean and spacious, and the staff are very friendly and accommodating, especially Louis Rojas. A very very pleasant experience. Will definitely come again 😀

Breakfast had plenty of choice, including fresh beans and eggs and a great Bircher muesli. I also liked that guests weren’t rushed out at 10:30, so the morning felt much more relaxed. There was a team event in the conference rooms during my stay, but things still felt calm and well organized. I was there for a recent shooting, and the hotel exceeded my expectations. Check-in was super smooth, handled by a very polite and professional young team. What stood out was how calmly the staff worked together, friendly, efficient and attentive. No wonder the hotel was fully booked. It’s a great choice when you need to focus on work, since everything is taken care of seamlessly and you can concentrate on your projects. Thanks to the team for arranging a late check-out and providing an HDMI cable. That made my stay more comfortable. I can wholeheartedly recommend the Courtyard by Marriott for business or relaxing.

I was charged both the authorization amount and the full payment, and I’m still waiting for the refund after several attempts to contact them. Customer service has been poor and unresponsive. The free popcorn and chocolates don’t make up for the billing hassle. There are better Marriott options near Central Station, and I’d strongly recommend those.
