AMEDIA Plaza Dresden

We chose this place for its downtown location, parking, laundry, big rooms, and hardwood floors. The floors were lovely, and there wasn't that usual hotel smell, though we did find a few short hair clippings under the blanket and the pillows had a faint scalp odor. The hair dryer also cuts out after about a minute, then needs 5-10 minutes before it works again. The parking lot was full. The listing didn't say spaces were limited, which would have been useful to know. There was no public laundry room either. Housekeeping would wash clothes, but charged 4-11€ per item, which is extremely expensive for a full bag. We had booked a comfort room plus but got a twin room, and were told the price would be the same. They said they could assign a room with a higher ceiling and charge for a larger room, and that only the corner rooms looked like the photos.

We left the car in the hotel's garage, which needs to be reserved ahead of time, and were able to walk everywhere. That included many of the Christmas markets, even one across the river via a foot and trolley bridge. We also walked to a double decker tour bus; they provided earbuds so we could follow the tour in most languages. The city's Christmas markets were full of food, drinks, and goods, and Dresden felt truly enchanting. The hotel was well located near landmarks, with city views, parking, a restaurant, and very nice staff. It had everything we needed for a great price. We'll definitely be back.

The room was a good size, the staff were very helpful, and the location worked really well for tourists. For the price through booking dot com, I'd recommend it without hesitation. Breakfast at the Eiscafe downstairs is excellent and good value, and there are plenty of other restaurants nearby, so I'd skip the rate that includes the hotel's breakfast. The hotel car park costs a lot and has to be booked in advance. Order a P card from Contipark and use the Semperoper car park for a fraction of the price. A few small details could use attention: part of the skirting board wasn't clean, the bathroom door handle was loose and missing its rose, and there weren't enough cups or spoons. There was no obvious hotel information folder. We had to ask staff for help with things like the unintuitive heating and air conditioning, and nobody had told us it stops working when the balcony doors are open. There's no kettle in the room unless you ask, but nowhere explains what's available on request. We were also given ice for someone in our group who was injured. We had no idea that was an option, and wonder what else we could have requested.

The location was very good, but the room had several issues. Lights were on that we couldn't switch off, the curtains didn't block the light, and the pillows were thin. The toilet paper was extremely poor quality, and the soap ran out quickly. There was construction across the street, so sleeping was difficult, though that wasn't the hotel's fault.
