Motel One Dresden Am Zwinger

When a fire broke out at night in the building across the street, the hotel manager and staff were incredibly supportive and kind. They let us stay in the lobby, where everyone could get warm and the children could sleep through a difficult situation. Thank you so much for helping us.

The atmosphere in the hotel and lobby was lovely, and having a desk in the room was handy. Dresden feels magical, and staying right in the middle of it, without malls around, made it feel like stepping back in time. Anastasia gave us a warm welcome and a room with a beautiful view. There could be more closet space, though, so I may have a word with the architects we read about in the book. ;) There’s no coffee maker or kettle, but I went downstairs and ordered from the coffee bar. I had a look at breakfast and it seemed solid. We almost chose somewhere else, but I’m glad we stayed here. A great experience, highly recommended.

The room was small but clean, and the location was central. There’s no fridge or kettle. Check-in took a bit too long, with a long line during the Christmas season. For parking, if you won’t need the car and don’t mind a 10-minute walk, the garage behind the opera house, contipark tiefgarage semperoper, costs 6 euros a day. We could pull up briefly beside the hotel entrance to check in and take our bags to the room.

The rooms are quite small, and our queen-size bed took up nearly all the space, so they’d probably suit one person best. The hotel has been newly renovated, and you can see that as soon as you enter the restaurant and lobby. Staff were attentive and helpful. We had a great stay, with an incredible downtown location close to shopping, lots of restaurants, and large plazas.
