Apartment 1 is right in the center and close to the beach, though it was still fairly quiet. There’s parking on site, and the space and layout worked fine for three people. The kitchen is very basic but had enough for us, apart from about half the plates being chipped. It was also a shame that the bedrooms couldn’t be darkened properly. Shutters like the other apartments in the building, or at least blackout blinds, would help. The balcony is tiny, its furniture needs attention, and it was practically unusable. Around the apartment, the armchairs were greasy and stained, the curtains and carpets were dirty, and the place needs renovation. It hadn’t been cleaned when we arrived, so we started the holiday by doing a thorough clean. We were reimbursed for the final cleaning. In the bathroom, the shower head kept coming loose, and the old instant water heater made it easy to scald yourself. The apartment has potential, but it needs investment and the owner should deal with these issues. We also passed all of this on to the leasing office.

Apartment 4 is one of the nicest places we’ve stayed in Duhnen, and it’s handy for the bakery, beach, and shops on foot. Parking is included, and it’s well suited to children. The sofa bed was cozy and comfortable, the kitchen had what we needed, and the apartment is tastefully furnished and renovated. We felt very at home. There is a cleanliness issue, though. It’s advertised as allergy-friendly, but it wasn’t suitable for someone with a dust allergy. The dusty towel warmer and headboard, along with corners that hadn’t been cleaned, show it needs a proper deep clean. This doesn’t seem to be just down to the occupants. In our experience, cleaning has been an issue with the companies or staff, since we haven’t yet had a clean apartment in Duhnen.

Communication with the landlord was easy and very good. The apartments are well equipped, the location is excellent, and there’s parking available.
