Haus Thorwarth-Garni

The room was spacious and lovely, with a bright bathroom, and the staff were friendly and reliable. It was very clean. The village center was about 5 minutes away and the beach about 8 minutes, both easy distances. I would have liked tea or coffee making facilities in the room. Exterior lights and spotlights right in front of and below our windows kept the attic room lit almost until midnight. The owner said we could close the blinds, but with the poor ventilation up there that wasn’t really an option. It could be handled better. I also found it unacceptable that we had to leave the room key on a hallway rack anyone could access. There were a few other things as well. Breakfast was okay, nothing more. On Sundays and Wednesdays it included a boiled egg, not scrambled, canned fruit salad, one kind of cheese, Camembert, and a few cold cuts, along with the usual jam and so on. There were two rolls per person on the table, and cold cuts as well. Mr. Thorwarth clearing food away as soon as someone left the table, and telling guests which bowl to use at the buffet, was annoying and unnecessary. You have to accept the landlord’s style, but it didn’t suit us.

We’ve been staying with the Thorwarth family for years, and each visit leaves us delighted. We always ask for a small, cozy room, and the accommodation has been fantastic. It feels less like simply finding somewhere to stay and more like being part of a little family with the Torwarth family and the other guests. Most of our time is spent in beautiful Duhnen anyway, and Mr. Thorwarth has given us some great tips. Thank you, Thorwarth family. See you next time.

Hotel Garni Thorwarth is close to the small town center and the beach, and parking is free. Our room was lovely, well kept, and spotless. Breakfast was plentiful, with spreads, sweets, cold cuts, cheese, fish, juices, and even a small glass of sparkling wine. Still, I asked twice for a different roll from the whole-grain one and was told guests couldn’t have another type. They also said sweet rolls aren’t available every day. At 11:00 a.m. the cushions are taken off the terrace chairs and locked away. The sun loungers in the well-kept garden had no cushions and were in full sun, and there was nobody around to ask. The worst part was Mr. Thorwarth making what he apparently thought were jokes, twice insulting my husband with hurtful comments about his weight and age and telling him to exercise. When I raised it with him, he brushed it off by saying he’d also been ill and had lost a lot of weight. My husband is very ill, and we’re grateful we can take a holiday together. We decide based on how he feels whether and when we walk, how long we sit on the hotel terrace, and when we take the car. We won’t return to this bed and breakfast.
