Strandpalais Duhnen E22

I've already booked for next year, after staying at the Strandpalais for the third time. It has everything I need for a lovely holiday: a beautiful, clean, well-maintained apartment, an elevator, and underground parking. I also value having a beach chair on the beach, and the view alone is worth the price.

We were lucky enough to spend our holidays in this dream apartment from 2014 to 2016, and we're looking forward to the next one already. The furnishings had everything we could want, and the view across the wide sea was breathtaking. Sitting on the spacious balcony or terrace to watch a sunset on a lovely summer evening made for a truly perfect holiday.

This is only about apartment number 5. The location is superb, with a beautiful view of the lake and the Leuchtfeuer restaurant. Our underground parking space was right beside the stairwell and elevator, and the rental agency did a very good job. They can only manage what's available, though, and the apartment's upkeep is a problem. We wouldn't book it again because the price doesn't match what you get. The advertised Wi-Fi was practically unusable. We could connect, but the data transfer rate was around 30 Mbps, and often no internet connection showed up. Even an ordinary webpage could take 1 to 2 minutes to load. This wasn't a streaming issue, just normal use. I'm mentioning it for anyone who values internet access or wants to use social media. It also matters for getting current tourist information, since the apartment brochure was old and dated from 2018. The instructions for the exterior blinds were still in the folder, and the switches were still there, but they didn't work because the blinds had been removed. The furnishings also felt makeshift. A broken glass top in the middle of the living room table hadn't been replaced, leaving a large hole where decorations could go. At least the remaining edge was still usable for cups and glasses. The dining room's interior blinds were quite badly stained. When we arrived, the beds weren't made, which we didn't expect at this price. The down comforters were very heavy and uncomfortably hard, so we asked to replace them. The service was fantastic: after we complained, new duvets were waiting in the apartment when we got back. There wasn't much crockery either. Four plates weren't enough, so we had to run the very noisy dishwasher often.

It's peaceful and relaxing, and even from the ground floor there's a great sea view, which we hadn't expected. You can also spend two hours a day at the ahoi swimming pool for free, and it's only a few minutes' walk away. We'd recommend the Strandpalais and will probably return next year.
