Schloss Edesheim

We came for a weekend at the castle and used it as a base to explore this lovely corner of Germany. It’s a historic building with a special charm, surrounded by grapevines and a somewhat neglected garden. Everyone was welcoming and friendly, and I really enjoyed the well-prepared five-course dinner, which had a touch of fusion. Breakfast was a generous continental buffet with plenty of German products. The suite on the top floor of the tower, the sans souvi suite, was a different story. The bed was on the first level, while the bathroom was upstairs via a steep, noisy staircase. Since the stairs were right in front of the bed, using the toilet at night made a loud noise and could wake the other person. The staircase felt dangerous, and you had to turn on the light because you couldn’t see. That made nighttime bathroom trips difficult and genuinely scary. The low clearance between the stairs and the roof also made me hit my head a couple of times. I definitely wouldn’t choose that room again.

The only real hassle was having a lot of luggage to carry up to our second-floor room. Otherwise, this is a beautiful manor hotel with very large, spacious rooms and a lovely property. I’d recommend eating at the nearby winery, anselmann.

The rooms were spotless and a good size, and the breakfast was superb. The staff were so friendly and did a wonderful job.
