Landhotel zur guten Quelle

We came back for a second Easter stay in 2024 and felt just as comfortable at Mrs. Hoffmann's. The rooms are nicely furnished, and the colors go together so well. Also, finally, bed linens that aren't white! =0) After hiking, the thing we looked forward to most was dinner: freshly made, authentic Thuringian home cooking every evening. You can tell the person at the stove puts their heart into it, and the food tastes that way. Breakfast was lovely too, carefully prepared, with homemade salads and lots of regional specialties. Thank you for such a wonderful stay. We'll be back.

Right at the beginning of the Rennsteig trail, this is a welcoming, lovingly run hotel. We slept peacefully, and the region has plenty to offer. The rooms were clean and in excellent shape, and breakfast and service were a delight. You can also go canoeing on the Werra River through the hotel.

Breakfast the next morning was good and plentiful, and the eggs were nicely decorated. Dinner was a buffet, attractively arranged, but much of it seemed to be frozen food. It tasted okay. The buffet was cleared away while we were still eating, and staff even folded up and removed tables around us. The same thing happened after coffee, when people were still eating or taking cake. That was completely unacceptable. Service felt poor and overwhelmed throughout. The dining room decor was tasteless, the flowers were dirty and web-covered, and the table salt and pepper shakers were filthy. There was no background music. For a celebration we'd booked for about 25 people, the evening started with only one bottle of dry white wine available. The Aperol Spritz was poor, and with it 29 degrees Celsius outside, water came very slowly. Glasses were rinsed quickly and returned still dripping, with fresh drinks in them. It's a shame this place isn't better.

My girlfriend and I went to Eisenach (Hörschel) for a short trip and had dinner one night at the "Gute Quelle" (Good Source) restaurant. We didn't stay there overnight. Sybille welcomed us, and she's kind, funny, and very friendly, as well as a fantastic cook. She's currently running the whole place alone because, unfortunately, no staff can be found. That means cleaning rooms, making breakfast for guests, and looking after the restaurant all fall to her. I called ahead and Sybille said we were welcome. She made us schnitzel with chanterelle cream sauce and fried potatoes. You can tell she puts her heart into what she does. Our meal was absolutely delicious, and I highly recommend her.
