Hotel Am Ma Hlenteich

The restaurant has a romantic look, and the food was simple but good. Service there could be more efficient, though, and the staff may need some training. Hotel staff were really friendly and helpful. The clean, comfortable rooms make this a nice base for exploring the surrounding area. There was no coffee machine.

The bed was comfortable, and the shower had good pressure and hot water. Rooms were comfortable, if a bit compact. The staff were helpful and the hotel was relatively nice. Food was delicious, though a wider selection might be welcome, including lighter options like sandwiches and gourmet burgers. An electric kettle would be useful for guests wanting to make a quick tea or coffee. One small drawback for me was having to buy water from the minibar, as there were no complimentary bottles.

The hotel felt considerably overpriced at around Euro 100 a night, especially with breakfast at Euro 12.50 per person. The buffet was poorly stocked and rarely replenished. Towels were only changed if left on the floor, and sometimes the toilet kept flushing. The bigger problem was the internet, which didn't work in our room or in the lobby. When we complained, we were told to try the lobby, but that didn't help. At this price, that was unacceptable, particularly in Schwelm. On the positive side, the room was spacious and quiet at night, and the hotel is near the Autobahn and in the center of Schwelm. We were there for a family visit, and came away with the impression of pretentiousness, or perhaps a hotel in decline or waiting to be sold.

The rooms were clean, and the staff were smiling and helpful. It's a decent place with the basics done well, nothing fancy or exceptional. I wouldn't have a business reason to return to Schwelm, but if I did, I'd stay here again.
