Hotel Domizil

Mrs Herber kindly stayed late to welcome us after our long drive from Lund in Sweden, which included several "Umleitungen" because of accidents. We arrived on Friday night during the annual city fiesta, with partying people filling the old town where the hotel is located. There's private parking, but let the hotel know when you book if you need a space. Our second-floor room, which Mrs Herber showed us to, was elegantly decorated and looked over the courtyard. It had lots of interesting details and everything we needed. The bed was luxuriously comfortable, and the shower was perfect. For a dad and daughter, the open bathroom layout wasn't ideal: even with a curtain, there wasn't much privacy. We'd encountered this on other trips together in Germany, though, and managed. Breakfast was early and strictly organized, with nothing missing. Mrs Herber helped her staff, which we appreciate as a sign of her involvement. Highly recommended.

Erfurt is a gem, with a compact, very walkable Altstadt, a wonderful cathedral and domplatz, other notable churches and attractions, and a great choice of restaurants. It's a bit off the beaten path for US tourists, but deserves a visit for an authentic small German city experience. We fell in love with the city, the hotel, and Jenny and Dominic, and didn't want to leave. This is a charming, family owned and operated boutique hotel, and their care for every detail shows throughout. Jenny and Dominic were delightful and patient with my rusty German. Jenny had also been very patient over two years of repeated COVID related schedule changes. Check-in was smooth, and they showed us to our rooms, a nice touch. The rooms were huge, well appointed, and very comfortable, with large beds and extra seating. The bathrooms weren't in separate rooms, but were divided from the rest of the room by smoke glass partitions. Everything sparkled, and the WiFi signal was good throughout the hotel. The dining room is beautiful and spacious. Breakfast was amazing, with Jenny and Dominic looking after all our needs. We stayed three nights on a recent Europe trip with my son and brother in law. I can't recommend Hotel Domizil highly enough.

Hotel Domizil sits right on Dom Platz in the Andreas section, close to great sights, including places connected with Martin Luther and the kramerbruncke. The location is great, and the staff are friendly and attentive. Breakfast each day was amazing. The rooms and building are beautiful, with a history going back to the 16th century. Erfurt may be out of the way for US and other non-German tourists, but if you're going, this is the place to stay. You can't go wrong at Hotel Domizil.

Parking is available, and the location is wonderful. The rooms feel luxurious, breakfast is fantastic, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I'd highly recommend this hotel. If we return to town, we'd definitely stay here again.
