Bernhardhof Andechs

This is just about the restaurant. We went on a Monday afternoon when it was nearly empty, and our waiter was really kind and attentive. My friends and spouse loved their food and drinks, and kept talking about the schnitzel for days. I'm vegetarian, though, and there weren't many options for me. I ordered the fried asparagus and was still quite hungry afterward, so I'm taking off a star for the limited meatless choices. Everything else was great.

The garden herbs go straight into the kitchen, and the Abbey beer comes in frozen steins. It's a lovely Bavarian Inn near the monastery and brewery, with friendly service and imaginative food at reasonable prices. A really nice spot in the Ammersee.

I came across this place by chance on Christmas Day, when hardly anything else was open. The room felt warm and cozy, and after a few days of surviving on kebabs and McDonalds, I was ready for a proper meal. I arrived half an hour before the kitchen opened, but the waiter kindly seated me and brought the drinks menu. The "andechser spezial hell" is worth trying, one of the best beers I had on my trip, brewed by the monks at the monastery. I ordered the four-course meal and loved how different each dish tasted. It was rich and delicious, and even the radish ice cream was impeccable. The pork belly was crisp and full of flavor. I didn't get to try the whole Christmas goose, which was a shame. And don't pay attention to the few negative English reviews on Google. You can imagine what kind of insufferable slobs wrote them behind a keyboard. This place was amazing.

The room was very nice, with a great kitchen and modern amenities. Breakfast was very good too. Being just steps from the monastery made it easy to enjoy the Brauerei.
