I can't say anything about the rooms or location, since this is only about the service. My husband and I booked one night in September 2026 through booking.com last week as a surprise for my parents during their holiday. Just an hour or two later, I tried to cancel through booking.com. The hotel replied there that it wouldn't allow a free cancellation and wanted 100% of the accommodation cost. I emailed the hotel directly afterward. I said I understand cancellations are frustrating, and that if we'd canceled at short notice, say at the end of August, I could understand them insisting on payment. But it was only mid-May, and I'm quite sure they could re-let the room by then, so I don't understand the demand for the full cost. They haven't even replied to my email. My husband called, and the hotel told him the terms and conditions say this, and they won't make exceptions. The odd thing is, if you book directly with the hotel, there's no cancellation fee up to 14 days before arrival. But book through a platform and apparently you "have to" pay the whole amount. Definitely not recommended!
