The court issue may now end up being settled in court. After weeks of waiting, and only after we threatened to report it to the tax office, we finally got a receipt for the €45 withheld for bed linen, which we felt had been kept unfairly. We hadn't understood when booking that linen wasn't included; the landlady has a different view. That was one more problem in a stay that left us very disappointed, and we wouldn't recommend the accommodation in good conscience. The weather was beautiful, so we only used it to sleep. Fehmarn itself is a fantastic island with lots to offer, but a rainy day indoors here would have been unacceptable. We couldn't understand the many positive reviews. If you're without a car, getting around is very difficult. The bus to Burg auf Fehmarn, the island's main town, runs every two hours on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and not at all on Sundays. Bannesdorf has no shops or other real infrastructure, not even a pub, though there is one very good restaurant. Even small errands and trips to the beach mean driving to Burg or elsewhere. We had an apartment under the roof in a complex made up of several apartments. Getting to it meant climbing a very steep, winding staircase. The sloping ceiling left only the middle of the living room tall enough to stand in, and at 1.78m I lost count of how many times I hit my head. The place had the bare basics, but was nowhere near equipped for cooking independently: just a two-burner cooktop, no oven, hardly any cookware, no basic spices, and no coffee filters. There was a musty smell in the stairwell as soon as we arrived, and airing the apartment thoroughly didn't get rid of it. We suspect rodents or pests may have been in the neighboring storage room because at night we heard scratching, gnawing, and scurrying. The mattresses felt soft and worn. The living room sofa bed might have worked for our 7-year-old, but not for a taller child or an adult. In the tiny bathroom, about 3 square meters, you can stand upright only in part of the space; under the sloping ceiling you have to stoop. The shower head was badly calcified, and it was hard to regulate the water. If someone in another apartment flushed, the water could suddenly get extremely hot. The so-called terrace by the courtyard parking area was covered in leaves and cluttered with maritime and agricultural junk, so we never used it. The owners didn't sweep it before we arrived or during our week. The holiday farm also has old playground equipment, which might be nice for small children but isn't anything special. The animals mentioned in the description were three pitiful dwarf rabbits in a neglected cage. In my view, the TÜV should inspect the playground equipment, which is used commercially, and the veterinary office should look into how the animals are kept.
