Main Hotel Frankfurt City

I liked my stay despite the negative reviews. The price was affordable, and my room was clean.

The pictures are fake. I walked in and was met by a horrible smell. The stairs were falling apart, the door looked wrecked, and the room was a nightmare. Apart from the bed sheets, everything was filthy, with strange white smears on the walls and furniture. I have no idea what it was, and don’t want to know. I checked out after about five minutes. The place felt unsafe and unlivable. How is it allowed to stay open? The authorities need to step in and shut it down.

The central location and low price don’t make up for this. I woke in the middle of the night because there was something in the bin, probably a mouse. The bedroom was filthy, the smell was awful, my sheets smelled of cigarettes, and the bathroom was just as bad. I didn’t sleep at all. It was my worst hotel experience, and even one star feels generous.

The location is handy, about 450 metres from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, with trams on the main street, the Main river roughly a five-minute walk away, and plenty of grocery shops nearby. There are also lots of homeless people around. The area has many restaurants, so the streets get busy around 11 PM, and the noise echoes between the narrow buildings. In summer, having to open the window in the heat made it hard to sleep. Inside, the bathroom was okay and had hand soap and body and hair wash, and the sheets and bed were fine. The floor, table, and chairs were dirty. There was no fridge, though booking.com listed one, and instead of AC there was only a regular dirty fan. The TV was decent, with a few channels. Book at your own risk.
