Hotel Krone

The pillows weren't as fluffy as I'm used to, so my neck ached a bit after sleeping there for two days. I also missed having a locker for valuables. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and decently designed. Staff were very friendly and spoke enough English to help as best they could. Breakfast was healthy and plentiful, but only for paying customers.

The Wi-Fi was the best part, though after not using it for a while, it made you log in again and again. The room interior was old but clean, and breakfast was good. But the woman working in the restaurant was totally unfriendly, and housekeeping seemed to do only two things: turn off the heating in the cold room and take out the rubbish. Why wasn't there a “do not disturb” sign? After all that, only one thing to say: NEVER AGAIN!

We arrived 30 minutes after the strict 8 p.m. check-in cutoff. Nobody was there to let us in, and there was no number to call for someone who spoke English. Another guest let me in. The next morning, instead of apologizing, the owner asked, “how were you able to get in last night?” as if I had done something wrong by not wanting to sleep on the street. Later, 30 minutes after checkout time, I was outside my room on a business call when the owner told me I needed “to pay and get out.” Thirty minutes after that, while I was getting ready for another call, I was told, “we are closing the hotel get out.” I've never experienced this at a hotel before. The staff were incredibly rude and inconsiderate, made no effort to welcome us or understand our needs. Terrible service.

The beds were great, the rooms clean, and the bathrooms nice. Breakfast was abundant and the staff very friendly. I'd recommend this to anyone wanting to stay near the Black Forest.
