SEEhotel Friedrichshafen

It’s a really nice hotel in a great location, but I wouldn’t come back after the rooms we were given. We had two first-floor rooms above the main entrance, directly over tour buses that never switched off their engines and smokers who seemed to be out there all day and night, talking at full volume. I’d asked for higher rooms but we weren’t lucky. If you visit, insist on rooms higher up. I think they’d be 70 times better.

Being able to leave our bags after checkout was useful. We stored them from 10am to 5pm in the luggage area by reception. It’s an open space, but staff kept an eye on it and it felt secure. The hotel also gave us a public transport pass for the stay, which came in handy for travelling between the Zeppelin Museum and Dornier Museum at the airport. The main tourist area is a 10-15 minute walk away, so it’s a handy base for exploring Friedrichshafen. Our train from Zurich was delayed several times, and it was a relief that the hotel was only a two-minute walk from the platform. The bedroom and bathroom were both surprisingly spacious by European standards. The beds were the usual European setup of two twins joined together, but comfortable. Breakfast was included, though the Sunday morning rush made us wish we’d gone somewhere quieter outside.

The room was okay and so was the location, but everything else was a disaster. The food was spoiled, staff were rude, and the sauna wasn’t working. Nothing like what the website makes it out to be. Worst hotel stay I’ve ever had.

We were unhappy with the Hotelzimmer. At check-in, they tried to charge me 36 euro more per night than the price I’d booked online, because one bed was set up for my child. That extra charge hadn’t been mentioned during online booking. At checkout I paid the price I’d originally booked. The room was fairly large but basic, the bathroom quite old, and there was no kettle for boiling water. There isn’t much to see in town, so between that and the price issue at the start, we weren’t happy with the trip.
