Mercure Hotel Gera City

Every visit seems to bring another decline. There was no air conditioning again, and this time the explanation was, “it is not in cooling because NEXT week will be cool”. The room smelled bad when the lights were turned on, and there was dust and grime everywhere. The carpet had dark marks, and the new industrial soap dispensers were awkwardly placed and pointed the wrong way, so soap dripped onto my toiletries. The breakfast was poor too. The scrambled eggs were package eggs, and the fried eggs were oily and overcooked. I’ll stay in Leipzig or Jena and drive each day instead. This place isn’t worth 40€, let alone the 120€ they charge.

The staff were so helpful when I realized after checkout that I’d left clothes in the cabinet. They found them quickly and arranged courier delivery for a very reasonable cost. I also brought my dog, and we were welcomed with dog snacks and a cute water bowl, which made us both more comfortable. Breakfast was another highlight, with plenty of fresh, tasty choices every morning. Mercure Hotel is pet-friendly, and the attentive service made our stay easy and memorable. I’d gladly recommend it.

I spent 3 nights here. The room was pleasant, breakfast was excellent, and the location worked very well for me.

Update in July-24: I returned and found a real improvement. There was more variety on the menu, the food tasted really good, and the staff spoke English. I had no issues this time, and it was good to see the hotel administration had listened to my earlier review. Before that, breakfast was nice, but dinner and snacks needed work because the options were very limited. Some staff didn’t speak English. I know the hotel is in Germany, but English is a universal language. It’s a good hotel overall.
