Victor's Residenz-Hotel Gera

The staff were especially friendly, cheerful people in a cheerful place. Victor's has a gorgeous interior, plus a great breakfast and bar area. It's a large hotel in a mid-sized city, right in the center and directly connected to public transport. The rooms are fine, clean and spacious.

The sauna is fairly new and a real treat during a stay. The rooms are very large, and the employees are polite and helpful. With its central location, this is the best hotel in Gera, in my view. I can fully recommend it to anyone thinking of traveling to Gera.

A disaster, and the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. I spent a month there, and three times they gave me an invoice with the wrong address. Getting it corrected was a nightmare because nobody could communicate with me in English. The staff seemed extremely incompetent and indifferent. They also don't speak English at all, which felt pretty weak for a hotel in the middle of Europe. The place is in poor condition, with an old interior, and the staff were really rude. One evening I went to the restaurant around 19:50 to order food, then waited 40 minutes for a waiter. When someone finally came over, he said the kitchen was closed. I asked what time it closed, and he said 21:00. With 30 minutes left, I asked why I couldn't order, and was told the dishes had already been cleaned. There were other smaller problems too: the elevator was broken, breakfast was mandatory, and when I asked for a lunch box because I had to leave early one day, they hadn't prepared it. Don't go there!
