We loved the restaurant’s traditional German food, which was delicious and carefully prepared. The staff wore traditional German clothing, a charming detail that made the stay feel especially warm and authentic. The rooms are small and cozy, with an old fashioned charm that made us feel at home in a historic European house. Weekends and holidays get busy, so booking ahead is a good idea. Gasthaus Zum Goldenen Engel was an unforgettable stop for us.

The Black Forest is easy to explore from this ideal location, and we’re already thinking about coming back. Our spacious room was comfortable and tastefully furnished. Staff were attentive and very friendly without hovering. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent. Definitely recommend this hotel.

The hotel staff were good, and breakfast was nice. A warning about the kebab house within walking distance: they tried to charge me 29,00 for a 12,50 pizza. I refused to pay that. Typical scam. The hotel itself was great.

The building is nice and centrally located, but the stay felt expensive for the comfort provided. The room had no fridge and was extremely hot. With it at 30 C and no air conditioning, we asked reception for a fan. They said they had none, and we were nearly ready to check out. Then we asked the cleaners, who were friendly and gave us one right away. The reception staff were unfriendly, and we felt as if they were doing us a favor by letting us stay. The hotel’s staff and management should think about why they’re in hospitality. At least the cleaning staff and one older blond woman at breakfast were friendly.

Breakfast was small but high quality, with excellent Black Forest bacon. They’ll also make you an omelette if you ask nicely. Service was friendly, and the rooms were decent and comfortable, though perhaps too rustic for some. The bathroom was clean, but there were no complimentary items such as a comb.
