Hotel Nierswalder Landhaus

We liked the historic buildings, their history, and the peaceful village location among the forests. The chefs were dedicated, and the service staff were nice. But the managers are why we won't return or recommend a stay. We paid more by booking directly than we would have through Booking, so I'd suggest checking prices on an online platform. The restaurant food was excellent, in a lovely setting by the village's main square, with an outdoor terrace overlooking the forest and friendly, cute ducks stopping by. There was a small mix-up when the smoked speck arrived and we were told it was the Spanish hamon Serrano we'd ordered. Once the chef was called over, he apologized and brought the right item. The guest tables had dark brown WOOL placemats covered in crumbs and previous customers' hairs, which was really disgusting. Our double room was in the former school building. It was spacious, as was the bathroom, and the large windows looked out over green fields. The interior had gloomy, plain furniture and dim ceiling lights. The floor was fully carpeted, and the old, dirty carpet smelled unpleasant, especially given that dogs of any size are allowed in the rooms. The double bed was actually two single beds pushed together, slightly raised off the ground, with mattresses that were far too soft. The breakfast buffet offered plenty of good-quality choices, and each table had a lovely touch of fresh flowers. Still, the breakfast room's low ceilings and small size don't suit the guests from 30 rooms plus some caravans. The noise and confusion around the buffet and too many tables were unpleasant and disturbing.
