Hotel Haus Am Hochwald

A really nice hotel.

The breakfast was good and had a decent selection, though there were no fried eggs or bacon. The only eggs were very overcooked ones described as soft-boiled, which was a letdown. The pool was ice cold and practically unusable, and sauna access costs extra, which didn't seem reasonable for the hotel price. There were signs all over the place saying what guests couldn't do, including a one-towel limit for the pool. It left us feeling watched and controlled instead of welcome. At breakfast, we got the clear impression that the owner was monitoring how much food people took, so it was hard to relax and enjoy the meal. We'd been looking forward to the stay, but the owner came across as unfriendly, controlling, and not service-minded. A hotel needs to make guests feel comfortable through its hospitality and service, and this one fell short for us. If you want a relaxing, romantic, or enjoyable holiday, we'd choose somewhere else. We won't return and can't recommend it.

The location worked out really well for us: the lift/gondola, bike park, and restaurants were all an easy walk away. Our room was clean and suited our needs, and it was handy having a guest fridge for snacks and other food. We enjoyed swimming a few laps in the pool, and the temperature felt just right, neither too warm nor too cold. The sauna wasn't anything special, but it was adequate for us.

We had a wonderful stay as three families together. For my mother's birthday, the breakfast table was decorated so thoughtfully, and there was a wide choice at the buffet. Every room was spotless, and the bathrooms had hand and bath towels, shampoo, a hairdryer, and body lotion. The staff were so helpful whenever we needed anything, from a flower vase or extension cord to changing our sauna time. It all worked out perfectly. Thank you so much!
