Altstadt-Hotel Athos

Interesting place, and very good.

Really great!

The welcome was really warm, and the house sits right by the old town, very centrally. Our room was quiet and spotlessly clean, though the furnishings felt a little dated. I’d gladly recommend it.

We paid €65 per person each night, and even the stairwell was unpleasant, with an old-fry smell and railings so sticky they felt like superglue. Parking is available, though the metal signs marking the spaces were lying on the ground in a corner. The rooms offered almost no chance to rest. All three beds were ancient, and as construction workers we felt every bed-frame slat through the completely worn mattresses. The springs were all noticeable, like they’d been made in 1998. The rooms were covered in nicotine stains, and opening the fridge was awful. It smelled like a chain smoker had been there, and I smoke myself. The bathrooms were extremely outdated too, with shower heads leaking everywhere except where they should. Cleanliness overall was okay, but this was a truly awful hotel. Just don’t go.
