The room was furnished adequately, and the shower had enough warm water to clean off the grime on the stairwell. But the bed frame and mattress collapsed onto the floor when I tried to lie down and relax. Getting inside was a much bigger ordeal. I drove to Grimmen for a work stay, glad the guesthouse was close to the train station. On arrival I was told to call a landline. I did, but no one picked up. After an hour and a half and 13 attempts, someone finally answered and promised a colleague would bring the key in 10 minutes. That wait stretched past an hour, with 14 more failed calls. I was about to give up and go home when my boss called, and someone suddenly became reachable, perhaps because it was a different number. The colleague eventually arrived, apologized quickly, and said she had only just heard I was coming. Not worth the trip, and I wouldn’t go back. The guesthouse in Grimmen seems to be the only option, and the service shows it. If you can find any alternative, even a bridge, the train station mission, or a public restroom, use it. The service should be far better.

My friend went there with her boyfriend and only heard gruesome things. Apparently, the manager hanged himself about three months ago, and the guesthouse is closing because it hardly has any guests now.

I’m still waiting for my invoice, and I’m convinced I won’t get it without legal help. More than a week passed, and after several reminder emails with no reply, I called. They said it had been sent by mail, but two days later it still hadn’t arrived. When I booked, I had specifically explained what needed to go in the invoice header so there’d be no trouble with my expense report. At checkout, the staff member said she couldn’t print an invoice. The manager was out of the office and hadn’t prepared one, so she was supposed to mail it instead. The way guests are treated here is unacceptable.

You can’t reach anyone by phone when you have questions, breakfast isn’t offered, and they only take cash. They have no interest in their guests. Avoid this guesthouse at all costs.
