The breakfasts alone were worth it: loads of food, eggs cooked how you like, and farm-made honey and Black Forest ham. The owner and his wife were lovely to chat with and told us about the farm, the area and its traditions. They also suggested Webers esszeit, which we really enjoyed. We came with my girlfriend in winter, when a lot was shut for the off-season, but still had a great stay. Our room was spotless, huge and had AMAZING views. Gutach is a small, cute village without much to do in town, though it’s well connected. There are trails all around, including fun walks right by the farm, and plenty of nearby villages to explore. Triberg has waterfalls and the world’s two biggest cuckoo clocks. Freiburg is about an hour away on a gorgeous, winding drive, and Titisee is also roughly an hour away on fun roads. Breakfast costs €15 per person per day. If you’re heading to the Black Forest and like animals, this is a great place to stay.

The kids were kept busy with the swings, sandpit and all the outdoor games, and the whole place felt genuinely family friendly. We had a lovely balcony view, too. Our family spent three days here in August in the Blum Bauernhof guesthouse. The owners were so welcoming, kind and clearly passionate about what they do. The scenery was beautiful, breakfast was great, and we especially loved the delicious homemade farm goods: Black Forest ham, sausages, jam and honey. Our room was newly refurbished, spacious and nicely decorated, with useful things like a fridge, tea and coffee maker, kettle, cutlery and hair dryer. We’d absolutely come back and would recommend it to family and friends.

Breakfast brought to our room every morning turned out to be a really nice surprise. We stayed with our two kids, aged 2 and 4, in an apartment in the main building, and it worked perfectly. The place feels like stepping back in time and switching off from the world. It is dated, as other reviews say, but very clean and spacious, and great value for money. The location is amazing, and everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. Massively recommended, we’ll definitely be back.

Gutach gave us five unforgettable, wonderfully quiet days, and the farm accommodation had a truly impressive view. It’s a good choice if you’re after peace and quiet; if not, you may want another village. Europa Park is about an hour away by car. The room was comfortable and fine, and breakfast was simple and fresh. This was honestly one of the best places I’ve stayed.
