a&o Hamburg Hauptbahnhof - Hostel

The afternoon receptionist was very helpful. We stayed in Hamburg for five days with our two kids, aged one and three. The room was cosy and warm, and worked well for our family. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was good, and the baby bed we’d requested at reception was there.

The location, close to Hamburg Central Station, was a big plus, and the price was excellent compared with the Ibis hotels where I’ve stayed on earlier Hamburg visits. I booked a&o Hostel Hamburg Hauptbahnhof through Booking.com at the last minute. There was a small snag finding my reservation, but Hakim at the front desk stayed calm and patient and made check-in easy after a long trip. My private room had three beds, spotless towels and linens, and a clean bathroom. It was a short stay, but a really good one. I’ll choose a&o next time, especially thanks to Hakim.

There’s a good range of breakfast options, and the staff are friendly enough. The food and staff deal is reasonably priced, and there’s welcome coffee on arrival. The central heating worked well and the room had a hot shower. You’ve also got a pool table and a children’s play area. The location is convenient, within reasonable walking distance of the train station and close to the metro. The warehouse district is about a 30-minute walk if you’re up for it.

In February our four-person room came to just 10€/night/person, and the hostel is close to the Hauptbahnhof. The room was clean, and they gave us fresh bedding at the start. I think the room and bathroom were cleaned every two days. Bring hostel basics like earplugs and a towel, though you can borrow a towel at reception.
