It was quiet and clean, though the decor felt a little dated. Breakfast had a nice range, but they wouldn’t let you take cappuccino away in your own mug, even if that was the only coffee you were having with breakfast. Other people in our group tried the out-of-the-way bar and enjoyed the service. Expect plenty of reminders of the precautionary tale of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Typical German hospitality.

I was offered a frozen pizza for a really fair price, since there’s no kitchen for dinner and no other restaurants within walking distance. I arrived by bike late in the evening, and the hotel is a couple of miles off the main weser cycle route, well away from the beaten path. It didn’t seem very busy to me. The room was clean and simple, and I could store my bike safely in a shed. Breakfast was an okay buffet.

We tried charging our Renault Zoe. The app we used to find the charger said it was public. We went to get food, then came back to find we’d been deliberately boxed in. At reception, the manager came in and started complaining like a child, hurling insults at my father while he was trying to apologize, including calling him a stupid boy and using other vulgar insults. The manager was rude and violent. Don’t stay here.

The staff were friendly and spoke English too. The hotel was clean and pleasant, though a little dated. Its theme is very much the rat catcher of Hameln.
