City Hotel Hanau

Breakfast was included in my rate, but don’t count on getting it. I’d agreed with the receptionist on 8.00 a.m.; nobody was there, and when I called again they said it started at 8.30, though I checked and it was supposed to run from 8.00 to 10.00. There was no one at reception when I arrived, so I had to call and wait for someone to come. The room they gave me hadn’t been cleaned after the previous guest, the minibar was broken, and it was warm and noisy. Do yourself a favor and don’t stay here.

The shower was worse than ones I’ve had in hostels. Housekeeping took the trash out but left the bed untidy, so that’s what I came back to after work. It’s not a huge thing on its own, but if I’m paying for a service, I expect them to provide it. I also had to argue with reception to get an iron for my clothes, and the receptionist chose not to help, so I went to work without ironing. I know this isn’t a five-star hotel, but guests should be able to get an iron when they need one. I only stayed because I thought it was closer to where I needed to be, and I wish someone had told me otherwise. Take your money elsewhere.

I felt rather unsafe. The hotel was empty, the location was very inconvenient, and the beds were uncomfortable. It was noisy at night, and staff were unfriendly, if you could find anyone.
