Hotel Amadeus

Breakfast is a proper meal, with cooked food as well as the usual morning dishes. You can even grill your own vegetables. Ralf is the key person at reception, and Ulrike is the master chef in the kitchen. Go see for yourself.

I had to cancel two rooms I’d booked for Friday, the next day, because my travel plans changed. The person I spoke to was very unpleasant and said neither cancellation nor compensation was possible. I even suggested reopening the rooms for other guests and refunding part of the cost if someone booked them, but that wasn’t an option either.

The breakfast the next morning was a real highlight: a traditional German buffet with plenty of everything you could want. The waiting staff were friendly and attentive, though the robots in the dining room don’t have much of a sense of humour. Even with the hotel busy on Saturday and Sunday, the staff were great and we never felt neglected. We were there for one night for a family event, and this was the only hotel we could find because the Skorpions farewell concert was on the same night. That pushed the price up. Our room itself was spotless, comfortable, and well maintained, with good quality fixtures. The bed was comfortable too, and the air conditioning was very quiet. It’s not on a main Ubahn line, but there are plenty of tram stops within a reasonable walk. I’d stay again and recommend it.

After a long drive with the kids, the reception staff were so friendly, quick to respond, and accommodating that I couldn’t have asked for a nicer welcome. They were better than staff I’ve met at any five star hotel. A special thanks to reception for letting me enjoy a little extra time in the tidy, pleasant sauna after a long day. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the bed was comfortable. The rest of the room feels worthy of its four stars, though the bathroom could probably do with an update. Breakfast was amazing, with lots of choice. The restaurant being closed for dinner on Friday was a bit odd.
