Courtyard by Marriott Hannover Maschsee

I liked how close it was to a park and lake, while still being near the historic center. The room was spotless and pleasant, and the lobby felt cozy. The design struck me as a little too safe and short on character. I would have liked two blankets for two guests, though we were only there for one night as a stop on a long trip, so it left a good impression overall.

There isn't much within easy walking distance, and restaurants and the city centre are about a 20-minute walk away. Still, I'd stay again. The beds were extremely comfortable, and both the rooms and bathrooms were spacious. The shower was warm and pleasant, with good water pressure. The hotel faces the beautiful lake, which was completely frozen when I visited, and sits right in front of the Heinz Arena. Breakfast was good, though the selection felt limited and could be better. Wi-Fi dropped out now and then, but reconnecting got it working again.

The internet was a real problem. Wi-Fi was extremely slow, faster usable access cost extra, and mobile reception inside the hotel was very poor. Charging for basic internet feels outdated and out of step with what guests expect today. Management seems behind the times. We were there as a family with a baby, and only 0.5L of water had been left for three people. At 1 a.m. I had to go down to reception and pay €3.50 for more. At this price level in 2026, I think complimentary water and basic amenities should come standard.

The check-in took ages. We arrived on a Thursday after 21.30 and waited 30 minutes. Tea is available to buy in the lobby for 1€. The rooms were clean, and the view over the Maschsee was amazing. I also loved being able to open the windows for some fresh air.
