Ruhr-Hotel Birschel Mühle

The Wi-Fi barely worked during our stay. When we mentioned it, without making a formal complaint, we were met with rudeness and the issue wasn't fixed. The website photos of the breakfast room and buffet also need updating, since they no longer match what’s there. The hotel is part of a retirement home, which in itself isn’t a problem. It seems the rooms were turned into a hotel because no seniors wanted them, and some look directly at a building wall. One night would be manageable, but it felt too expensive. Parking was inconvenient too, with too few free spaces, a long walk, and a muddy mess when it rained.

There’s still a note saying the TV is broken, and it hasn’t been replaced in more than four months! Breakfast would be better prepared in the room. Baked rolls can’t weigh that much, and some fruit for the muesli would be nice.

We only stayed one night while on a cycling tour, and the price was very good. The hotel is lovely and distinctive, right by the Ruhr River. Our room was clean and nicely furnished, with a big bathroom. The staff were helpful and very friendly, and breakfast was tasty with a good range to choose from.

The hostess was warm and attentive, and the small but lovely breakfast buffet was fresh, tasty, and plenty for us. We felt completely comfortable and would gladly come back. It’s a charming little hotel, furnished with lots of care and attention to detail, in a great location that makes a perfect starting point for outings.
