The cabins make a great base for hiking, with fantastic routes all around and an outdoor theatre within walking distance. If you’re on foot, there’s a handy shortcut behind the cabins. We saw loads of the local area and had a fantastic stay. There’s also plenty to do on site: table tennis and table football in the games room, a play area for children, volleyball, crazy golf and a big outdoor chess set. It’s peaceful around the cabins, with birdsong and the occasional “Hallo” from someone passing by. Cars aren’t allowed near them, which is great with young kids, but it does mean you’ll have a walk from your car. There’s lots of parking and trolleys for carrying luggage or shopping, so use one. The cabins vary a little. Ours was excellent, spacious and well equipped with most of the comforts of home. There’s no washer or dryer in the cabin, but a shared washroom near reception has a washing machine. You can buy tokens at reception when it’s open. For entertainment there’s a radio, plenty of books and a small TV. Visitors from abroad should know it has no English channels, though free Wi-Fi is available in the cabin and the site restaurant. In winter there’s central heating and a real fire, with fuel and kindling supplied. A couple of things to know: mosquitoes can be a problem, and I wouldn’t leave a window open after dusk. There are no insect screens or fan for circulating air if you keep the windows shut in summer. The area is lovely for fresh air and quiet, and there’s an onsite restaurant five minutes away on foot, or interesting places to eat in the historic town about 15 minutes away. You’ll need to cook for yourself otherwise. UK visitors may also want to know the German pillows are large and square, 80cm x 80cm, so suitable cases might need buying online or locally after arrival.

A relaxing family trip: sports, cooking and bike rides. Bikes can’t be rented there, though. The wooden houses are nice and clean, and check-in and checkout are simple.

Quiet and lovely, even with plenty of families staying there. Such a peaceful spot.

It was fairly cold because the heating wasn’t working properly. That’s the only reason for the one missing star.

We were six people in House 59 for a weekend, and were very happy with both the house’s amenities and the village location. It would have helped to be told at check-in that fireplace wood had to be bought, so we could have sorted that out straight away.
