Hotel Roter Löwe

The owner greeted us when we arrived and, even though it was already late and the kitchen had stopped cooking, took us to a great restaurant just outside town. The next morning we had breakfast, then he showed us around the place, where our singer played one of his many pianos. The rooms were cozy and beautifully decorated, and the owner was one of the kindest people we met. It was an especially memorable stop, and we’ll stay there again next time we’re in Germany.

I had a hard time deciding on the rating. The house has a quaint atmosphere, and the owner's wife was very helpful, with good advice about places to see nearby. But the owner spent about 30 minutes berating me over his views on American politics and how our government damages Germany and the European Union. As a paying customer on vacation, I don't want to be belittled or have my country put down. I nearly gave it one or two stars, but the lovely historic B&B and the hostess’s help brought me to four. If you can steer clear of the owner's political antics, it's a gorgeous place to stay. Try to avoid him or keep him from talking about American politics.
