Hotel Helgoländer Klassik

The hotel is close to the sea, and the room has a kettle and Wi-Fi, though the connection drops sometimes. No microwave. Check-in was at another location, with a long queue, and there was no information about where breakfast was served. We only found it after asking other guests. Unfortunately, HolidayCheck only accepts reviews in German.

Really disappointing. I booked through booking [dot] com, but the hotel I'd selected wasn't the one in the confirmation, which showed a different location and price. It was a bizarre glitch. I book around 220 hotels a year worldwide, so I'm not new to this. I contacted booking [dot] com and the hotel right away, shared messages and screenshots showing the error, but nothing got resolved. I still went to the hotel, which turned out to be an apartment block, then tracked down a central reception address. The clerk just insisted it wasn't their problem and told me to take it up with the booking site. I said they had a contract with that site. He replied that it was late Friday afternoon. I pointed out that the site is open 24/7. Other hotels I've dealt with around the world have said, “Thanks, we'll sort it out.” This place gets a 3.7 score on other sites, and I agree.

The room was nice, with a very good mattress, and breakfast was very good too. We didn't have a sea-facing view, though I imagine that must be nice.

We love the service, the atmosphere, and the breakfast's taste and variety. The only thing we'd change is the mattress, which could do with replacing, though that's not unusual in hotels or holiday places. We still love staying here!
