Hotel zum Löwen Herborn

The two ladies at reception were especially kind, friendly, and helpful, and made our stay even more enjoyable. Hotel Zum Löwen was excellent, and we had a wonderful time in Herborn. Breakfast was complete and well balanced. Highly recommended!

It’s a small hotel in a very convenient spot, about eight minutes on foot from Herborn (Dill) train station and five minutes from the town center. Reception isn’t staffed all day, so you may have to call to get help. The practical, clean rooms have everything you need for a short stay, and the staff are very polite and helpful.

The rustic setting was lovely, and the food was very nice, but the service left a lot to be desired. Our Christmas lunch was potentially a lovely, rather expensive experience, and the poor service spoiled it, though it seemed to come from inexperience and being overworked. We’d booked a month ahead, but they’d forgotten our reservation. They did find us a table, which was kind, but it was in a cellar with lots of stairs, and we had an elderly person with us. The server seemed very inexperienced. Our drinks only arrived after we asked, and the table beside us, which had been seated before we arrived, still hadn’t got its food by the time we were leaving almost two and a half hours later. Their soup had been skipped without their consent.

We were only there for one night, which was a shame, and I’d like to return to both Herborn and this hotel. The reception is small, with stairs leading to three floors. My room was on the second floor, with a little entrance opening into a large room and a separate bathroom. There was a desk for working, a coffee machine, a big, very comfortable double bed, an armchair, and a wardrobe. The bathroom had a good heated towel rail and a good-sized shower, though sitting on the toilet was a bit tight with the sink in front. Breakfast in the hotel’s own restaurant was simple but tasty, with good coffee. Parking right at the hotel is limited, but there are other areas nearby. The host spoke good English and was helpful with questions and advice.
