The food at dinner was tasty and nicely presented, and Udo's recommendation, Regent red wine from Steitz Badenheim, was a delight. Breakfast was generous, carefully served at our table, and came with delicious coffee. We were warmly welcomed by owner Udo, whose calm, open manner made it easy to talk with him. The cozy furnishings were clean, and the hotel has its own charm from the GDR era. It's an old-school place, not one of the newer hotels with key-card room doors and a personal welcome that's rare these days. We were three people needing somewhere near Vacha for one night. About a week ahead, I called from Dülmen near Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia and booked one double room and one single. When we arrived, the hotel offered us its holiday apartment at short notice, and we stayed there instead. One-night guests mean extra work for any hotel. I'm originally from East Germany (Ossi), though I've lived in North Rhine-Westphalia for over 30 years, and I have fond memories of the GDR era. Reviews here seem pretty divided about the "Thüringen Hof." It's a matter of opinion, and I think it also depends on how people treat one another. I'd happily book here again, and I can highly recommend it.

For the price, this little hotel is absolutely fine. The rooms aren't luxurious, but they're clean, okay, and have what you need. The bathroom is small but laid out well. There's a restaurant on site. We didn't eat there or book breakfast, which you can arrange on site, so I can't say how good they are. Breakfast looked delicious, though 😋, and it's not a buffet. We'd definitely stay again.

In room 1, the loose cover on the lock was the first thing I noticed. It needed just one new screw, a 15-second fix. Then the closet rail couldn't hold my motorcycle jacket, and the bathroom had the same sort of neglect: someone had apparently leaned on the sink, and it was never fixed. Replacing a toilet seat would only cost a few euros and take 20 minutes. The hotel is showing its age, and it seems there's no maintenance staff taking care of small repairs. The mattress was much too soft for me, and I'd call it worn out. It may not be an expensive hotel, but they could still deal with these issues and leave everyone with a better impression.

We were first put in a room that wasn't the quiet one we'd been promised, so I spoke up clearly and we were moved to the garden-facing room. That one was okay, nothing special. The welcome wasn't friendly, and the price for what we got seemed very questionable. Everything looked old; the tiny bathroom was poorly maintained. The walls are so thin that noise from the hall and other rooms carries right through. We won't return.

The owners were very kind and helpful, but the stay itself was awful. Our room was run-down and musty, and the bathroom felt like a makeshift fix. The toilet made horrible noises, which at least gave us a laugh. Paying 70 euros a night, though, was no joke. It was outrageous.
