Das Ahlbeck Hotel & Spa

We felt comfortable at Das Ahlbeck throughout our stay, and everyone we met, from reception and housekeeping to the breakfast staff, was remarkably friendly and obliging. The breakfast deserves a mention too. The cappuccino was a pleasure, eggs in any style could be ordered from the staff, and the buffet had fresh baked goods, yoghurt, muesli, jam, honey, cold cuts, fish, salads, plenty of cheese, lactose-free milk, yoghurt and butter, plus fresh soy milk. The wellness area was attractive and very clean. There was a good selection of showers, a large ice dispenser, and an ice mist shower. The compact sauna area was worth a look, especially the 65°C sauna, which is a great feature for guests with high blood pressure and unique across the three imperial spas. The pool area also had a rest space with mineral water and several tasty teas to help rehydrate after the sauna. We had a very pleasant check-in despite arriving spontaneously. The receptionist welcomed us warmly, offered special conditions, and took care of parking, which is difficult in all three imperial spas. After our late arrival, we were also given a complimentary late checkout the next day. We had come from Berlin and were glad not to have to worry about parking. Das Ahlbeck is a modern 4-star wellness hotel facing the sea, right on the beach side. It looks newer than the venerable houses around it. The design borrows some elements from the other imperial spas, but the round parts of the building show that it's much younger. The sand-colored exterior has a slight Mediterranean feel, especially lit up in the evening. Facing the sea is a sheltered, chilly forecourt with beach chairs, a nice spot for breakfast in the sun. The fast elevator took us from reception to our room on the second floor, facing the Ostsee. It was neat, clean, and smelled pleasant, with wooden parquet laid in a boat-plank style. The beds were excellent and we slept well, although we would've preferred a king-size bed that couldn't slide apart. The first minibar fill was complimentary. They also thoughtfully brought another bathrobe in a suitable size without us asking. The robes were good quality and intended for the wellness area. There was a small electronic safe, but it wasn't big enough for a camera and notebook. The room had a fireplace that could only be used in winter. The sea view was okay, though the room was set a little back and didn't have its own balcony. Balconies and windows from neighboring rooms were on either side of the view. Wi-Fi throughout the room and building was quite good. The bathroom was a little angled because of its position, had everything needed, but no window. We'd decided to visit Usedom, and after seeing Ahlbeck, we spontaneously stayed at Das Ahlbeck. Ahlbeck is part of the municipality of Heringsdorf and the easternmost of the island's three imperial spas.

The view from every deck is great, and the hotel is very nice. I'd definitely recommend staying here. There are good places to eat nearby too. The Thai food may sound like an odd choice here, but it was delicious!

The welcome dinner was delicious, and we were lucky to be included. The service was remarkably good, and it's one of the best places around.
