Hotel Meereswelle Anno 1875

I'm happiest by the sea, and this place put me right where I wanted to be. I came for a few days to get away and had a simply wonderful time. Everything I needed was there, including the human connection I value. I usually don't put much stock in reviews because everyone likes different things, whether that's Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings, but I can give this place full marks. Highly recommend. I'll be back, and thank you.

The location is central and has a view of the Baltic Sea. The place was very clean, and everyone, including the owners, was friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was good enough.

My room was on the top floor, tiny but pleasant, with a sea view if you looked carefully. The hotel has an authentic, old-fashioned feel, and it was cozy and very clean, though the rooms, especially the bathrooms, are dated. The German and Polish staff were kind and helpful. The surroundings were surprisingly noisy to me, even though I live in central Berlin. Deliveries to nearby shops and hotels started at six in the morning. Breakfast had a decent range of cheese, cold cuts, herring salad, fruit, and vegetables, but wasn't anything special. The bread was pre-sliced from a bag, and the supermarket rolls were reheated. Since they had cakes and pastries next door, I wondered why they couldn't offer some fresh bread too. The staff tried hard and were friendly, but that's about it. Filter coffee came in thermos flasks and didn't taste fresh. The café next door also had a machine that made poor coffee, though maybe it was the coffee itself. I asked for oat milk because I'm lactose intolerant, but was told they don't offer it. Edeka around the corner sells it for €0.90/liter.

Ahlbeck and the surrounding area are beautiful, and we enjoyed going for walks over Christmas. It's still a place where Christmas is celebrated, with shops and restaurants closed 🌲. We stayed at the hotel last year for Christmas, and the food was very good. They also did everything they could to grant our requests.
