Hotel am Gothensee

Really good.

Great.

We took the New Year’s Eve package and were completely satisfied again. This is a beautiful, peaceful hotel right on Lake Gothen, and there’s something new to discover each year. You can see that they put a lot into the guest experience and keep investing. The food was a highlight. Breakfast was fresh and had lots of variety; in the evening there were two tasty dishes to choose from, with soups and desserts that rounded out the menu nicely. There was also a mulled wine invitation with a barbecue buffet, a New Year’s Eve reception with sparkling wine and a delicious buffet, live music and fireworks that night, and a delicious New Year’s Day brunch. Nicole, Heiko, and the whole team are welcoming, cheerful, and always available to guests. We’d love to return and can wholeheartedly recommend the hotel.

The food was excellent, but the way we were treated left me heartbroken. We’d booked a table for my father’s 70th birthday and agreed it would be nicely decorated. When we arrived, there was no decoration and the table wasn’t arranged for the occasion. The response when we asked was, “We forgot!” I pointed to the reservation book, where “birthday” was clearly written. Any restaurant with that booking should make the agreed effort to make the table pleasant for the guest. Then they told us we didn’t have to stay if we didn’t want to. The owner was appalling and rude, and we were politely asked to leave. I was furious. If it hadn’t been my father’s 70th birthday, I would have left. There wasn’t even an apology, let alone a complimentary shot, which would have been the least they could do. I’ve worked in restaurants for 25 years, and we’re locals who live practically around the corner from Schulberg. Seeing such a neglected table for my father’s birthday was simply heartbreaking. Thankfully, at Café Asgard we’re more attentive and caring with our guests.
