The location is the only good thing about Villa Aegir, Apartment 1.11, which I booked through UsedomTravel. The apartment needs renovation and has both structural and safety problems. The mattresses were badly worn, so we couldn’t sleep through the night, and the towels, bedding, pillows, and curtains were dirty, with hair and stains. Bare wires hung from the ceiling. The kitchenette outlets were right behind the sink faucet, creating a risk of electric shock or a short circuit. The only way to use a hair dryer was a hardware-store power strip screwed under the bathroom sink. There were many other problems too. This feels like a rip-off. I sent UsedomTravel photos and raised the issues, but so far they’ve only responded with incomprehension and no willingness to address them. Contacting the landlord also got me nowhere.

The beach is very close, and a beach chair is included. It’s a lovely, spacious apartment in a villa, with everything well equipped and tastefully furnished. The bathroom has a great walk-in shower, the kitchen is excellent, and there’s a small terrace.

The apartment is cozy and very nice, in a great spot just three minutes from the beach, halfway between the Ahlbeck and Heringsdorf piers. Air conditioning would be welcome since we couldn’t open the windows because of mosquitoes, though they’re not around all year.

The beach is only two minutes away, and the parking behind the house is great. Unfortunately, the bedroom furniture smells, and the balcony roof is covered in tar, which gives off an unpleasant smell when it’s warm. Oh well.

The apartment was beautifully furnished, with a well-equipped kitchen, a cozy living room, and freshly made beds in the bedroom off the hallway opposite the bathroom. Everything felt fresh and inviting, and we felt at home right away. We spent six wonderful days at the villa and still remember that week fondly. We nearly fell in love with the place. Getting there was easy: my GPS took me straight to Villa Aegier at Puschinstrasse 18, where the first impression made me happy. I could unload our luggage in the small lay-by, then walk up the wide staircase to the villa. I loved the quiet, even with the sea god Aegir, the soft stairwell lighting, the slightly creaky carpeted step, and the large parking area. The autumn colors around the villa and the sound of the Baltic Sea made it all feel even more special.
