Westendpalais

We’re staying in Westend Palais Apartment 6 with our two children. The apartment itself is lovely and very clean, though there are a few smaller things that need attention. The heat shield is broken and doesn’t work anymore. The beach chair, advertised as a “praline” and supplied by the owner, has been a huge letdown. It has rusty screws sticking out all over and looks close to collapsing. It can’t be moved at all, and with children around, the injury risk feels high, including the risk of blood poisoning. I wanted to sort this out with our booking partner, Usedom Travel, but was only told that we hadn’t paid extra for the chair and probably weren’t entitled to a proper one. They directed us to the accommodation provider, but we haven’t had any luck there either.

The Baltic Sea is just a few steps away, and the place was clean and had everything we needed, including a sauna. It was a great place to stay.

The apartment was beautiful and stylishly furnished. The construction site across the street only bothered me now and then. I’d come to enjoy the sea, not stay cooped up inside 😎. A little suggestion for the cleaning team: it might be worth checking the drains and leaving spare batteries for the remote. That’s really just nitpicking, though.

The blinds were a real problem. There are no roller shutters, just electric pleated blinds that let in quite a bit of light. On three of our seven days, they went up by themselves between 4 and 5 in the morning, even after we’d adjusted them manually. We couldn’t sleep at night! The ground-floor apartment itself is great and has a sauna, but the elevator to the underground garage was unreliable. Several other tenants had the same problem. We didn’t hear any construction noise from across the street, though, and the view wasn’t especially breathtaking.
