B&B Hotel Bochum-Herne

For two nights during the Essen Spiel Expo, this worked out as a good value, especially with parking available. It has fewer features than some other B&B Hotels, but the price still makes it a solid option. 8/10.

The €10 parking charge caught me off guard. I couldn’t find it explained anywhere beforehand, so watch out for that extra cost.

We had booked before the parking fee policy changed, when parking was free, but at check-in the receptionist pressed us to pay an extra 10%. Listings on Booking.com and other systems have shown €8 per day since Marc 2025, yet the clerk charged €10 daily and never sent the invoice she promised. That’s not according to German law and felt like poor B2B behavior. The corridors looked like a construction site, with bare electrical wires hanging from the ceiling. Inside the room there wasn’t even a kettle or coffee machine, and it seemed like absolutely everything came at an extra cost. The facilities were worn out, and the elevator made noises like it might not last another few minutes. For what we paid, this B&B wasn’t good value. I’m sorry, but I won’t stay here again.

There were two decent beds, but the room itself was tiny and the bathroom was even smaller. I found ants in there, and it had a really odd, unpleasant smell. It might be fine for just one night, though I wouldn’t want to stay longer. At a similar price, you can find a better category.
