Parkhotel Herne

The Biergarten is a lovely spot to sit outside and the food was really good, though the portions are very generous! The hotel is in a great, peaceful location, and the rooms were comfortable and just what you’d expect, with RITUALS hand soap and other details. All the staff were friendly and accommodating, even with me not speaking German. I’ll definitely come back.

The breakfast was great, and the hotel is in a beautiful location, but I was disappointed by the service. After staying for a week, I realized I’d left some expensive toiletries in the bathroom. Staff told me they hadn’t been found, which seems impossible, and said that if they did find them, I’d have to pay €15 to have them sent. That felt very inhospitable and unfriendly after a week-long stay.

This place shouldn’t be advertised as a four-star hotel. I’d give it two stars at most, and it wasn’t worth over €100 per room per night. The service was a shock: staff were very unfriendly when I asked for an extra pillow, and the customer service was poor. The mattress and pillows were uncomfortable. I was awake all night because of the horrible pillow, and I took pictures of a big spider hanging from the ceiling. Our view was of a lovely skip, and there was a very noisy football pitch nearby. In the morning, we had to leave because the food smell coming up from the kitchen downstairs was absolutely unbearable. I only stayed the second night because I’d already paid for both nights and was told there’d be no refund. Travelodge and Premier Inn are far more convenient.

The hotel was beautiful, the room nice, and breakfast was good. There were lots of insects in my room, though they weren’t bedbugs, and the shower let water all over the floor. There’s a wellness area, but I think it was closed because of corona.
