Fehrenbach Waldhotel

We spent three nights here and had a wonderful time. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful, and the location is extremely convenient for trekking and cycling. The rooms were very comfortable, and we felt welcome and well looked after right away. Josef is a great person and an amazing cook who clearly loves his job. The dinners and breakfasts were delicious and abundant. We really recommend it. Thanks so much, Josef!

Herr Fehrenbach is a great chef, knows a lot about wine, and has deep knowledge of the plants and mushrooms growing in the nearby woods. He puts that knowledge to good use with wonderful local food that changes with the seasons. Breakfast was very good too. The rooms at Waldhotel Fehrenbach are clean, modern, pleasant to stay in, and comfortable, though not luxurious. My wife and I spent a week there last September and had a wonderful time. The hotel is also a great base for exploring the Black Forest, with lots of beautiful scenery, especially for hiking. Freiburg and Basel are within reasonable driving distance, as are smaller towns like Triberg and Titisee-Neustadt, which offer good cultural options.

A reservation here can be hard to get: the hotel was full, and we only got a room after someone cancelled. Booking ahead is a good idea. The Fehrenbach family is now in its fifth generation of running this lovely place in an unspoilt part of Hinterzarten, surrounded by nature. The chef is talented and clearly cares about making guests feel special, with a real eye for the details and the treasures around the hotel. It's welcoming to families, and works just as well for a romantic break as for walking or skiing. We met plenty of guests who come back every year. A unique stay, highly recommended.

A lovely spot to sit and enjoy the landscape. Alongside the hotel and restaurant, they sometimes set up a few outdoor tables for drinks, light meals, coffee, and cake. The staff are very friendly, though the pace of service can vary, sometimes quick and sometimes slow.
